Streetcars in Prague are one of the most widely used means of transportation. Those who board these cars often board ultra-modern shuttles, however, it is still possible to take advantage of some slightly older streetcars as well. Active routes crisscross the length and breadth of the city and often make up for the absence of useful metro or regular bus routes.
Schedules
Streetcars in Prague, unlike other means of transportation, operate 24 hours a day. In fact, 22 daytime lines operate from 4:30 am until midnight. From midnight to 4:30 a.m., on the other hand, the 9 night lines come into service.
It must be said that the streetcars are fast and efficient, so much so that on average it is possible to board once every 10 minutes, at least during the day. On weekends or at night, on the other hand, the runs are somewhat more thinned out, even reaching about 40 minutes apart.
Many streetcars run on routes designed to intersect with some of the neuralgic points touched by the subway lines.
Tickets
The ticket required to use the rides can also be used on subways and buses and is valid for 90 minutes. It can be purchased at newsstands, via SMS or at self-service stations.
Trivia
Streetcar number 22 is the most tourist-friendly as its route passes through all the most relevant points of the city. Although thefts are not very common in Prague, it must be said that some have been reported on this line.
A must try is the experience of riding the historic streetcar 91, also known as the nostalgic line. This is a very old streetcar that is fully functional and operates from April to November on weekends and holidays in general. In this case the ticket should be purchased directly in the car.
