Taking a cab in Prague is the alternative to public transportation for tourists. Unfortunately, however, it is a fairly expensive solution. In fact, as is often the case in other cities, some professionals charge special rates and others are not exactly reliable.
Cost of cab Prague
The phenomenon of price clipping must have been quite widespread if a 2007 ordinance took care to establish an ad hoc fare schedule for Prague cabs. Thus we know that the maximum starting price will always be 40 crowns, for each kilometer driven you will shell out 28 crowns and for each minute of waiting 6 crowns.
There are also special packages, most often intended for tourists, which take the passenger from theairport to the hotel charging a fixed fare that averages around 20 euros.
Useful tips
Despite legal measures taken to curb the phenomenon, there are still quite a few scoundrels among taxi drivers. To avoid running into various kinds of shenanigans, it is therefore suggested to be wary of all those cars that do not display the indicative sign, license number and the name of the company of reference.
Also make sure that the moment you get into the car the meter is set to zero. Good rule is then to avoid taking cabs that stand in front of the railroad or otherwise in tourist areas except for the cars stalled in the fear place cabs.
It is better to stop cars on the road than to choose those already parked. Always try to agree on the price before setting foot in the car, book the cab by phone, ask for the receipt, and avoid battered cars.
Beware: some taxi drivers are actually thieves in disguise. Do not get into the cars carrying all your belongings and in any case always keep your eyes wide open so that you do not put yourself in danger.
